Review of Fairtrade Fortnight in Woking
Hi everyone,
We just wanted to send out a quick newsletter to tell you how Fairtrade Fortnight went. We had loads of publicity in local papers for our events, particularly the Fashion Show which was covered by the Woking News and Mail and the Heathrow paper Villager.
The main thrust of our events this year was to continue raising awareness of Fairtrade as widely as possible across the community but as usual, the main events we planned were supplemented by numerous smaller events by people such as yourself. This comes with a big thank you, as usual, because all our efforts are the reason why Fairtrade sales continue to grow at nearly 50% each year. At the bottom of this newsletter there is a list of all the events we are aware of that happened. If you can tell us about others you know of, please do!
Further News:
I will be meeting with both Woking and Guildford Councils at the end of this month to discuss how we could develop a Directory for Fairtrade Fortnight 2009 covering all the GU postcode.
I am also working to get Fairtrade status for Brooklands College.
We are aware that over the past few years we have had a number of new people join the Steering Group while others have moved on, and that many supporters continue to come out and help man stalls when we ask for help, get involved with events, or run their own. We have therefore decided it would be a great time to hold a social event where you can meet the current Steering Group and some of us can put faces to names of people we only know as an email address. So, please come along to a “bring and share” barbeque, to be hosted by John & Helen Keelty from 4pm on Sunday 11th May at Heath Cottage, Brookwood, Surrey, GU24 0EP. If you can let Becca know in advance that you plan to come that would help. Her phone number is 01483 472304, and her email address has changed to becca@rrowland.net, in case you didn’t know.
I’m sorry the newsletter isn't as pretty as the last one but Hayley is away at the moment and snowed under with Uni work.
If you do not want to continue to receive a News Letter please let us know by emailing Jenniann or Becca.
