Becoming a Fairtrade Church

Introduction

Many churches and church members are already enthusiastic supporters of fair trade practices, and trade justice issues in general. In Woking the churches have supported the campaign for Woking to become a Fairtrade Town and some are now asking about how to become a Fairtrade Church.
We are pleased to provide a 'how to' guide below but please contact us if you need more information. Of course, the more you do to make your congregation aware of Fairtrade issues the better so do look at other parts of this website which has ideas for other actions you can take, such as running a trade game. If we can help in any way we would be pleased to do so.
Write to the Fairtrade Foundation at Room 204, 16 Baldwin's Gardens, London EC1N 7RJ with written evidence of how your church meets criteria for a Fairtrade Church.

The appropriate Council or Church meeting should have agreed to:

  1. use fair-trade tea an coffee for all meetings for which you have responsibility
  2. move forward on using other Fairtrade products (such as sugar, biscuits, fruit)
  3. promote fair-trade during fair-trade fortnight and through other activities wherever possible.
